Osinbajo Attends Liberia’s Bicentennial Celebration

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo departs Abuja on Monday for Monrovia, to represent President Muhammadu Buhari at the inauguration of the year-long celebration of the Liberia’s bicentennial anniversary.

This statement was issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the vice president on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, on Monday.

Akande added that Prof. Osinbajo will join other leaders across Africa and beyond to attend the event scheduled to hold today at the Samuel K. Doe Stadium in Monrovia.

It was reported that Osinbajo will be accompanied on the trip by Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada and and Special Adviser to the president on Economic Matters, Dr. Adeyemi Dipeolu, is expected back in the country on Tuesday, February 15.

Ondo court jails widow for brutalising 12 year old househelp

The magistrate court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Monday, sentenced a woman, Omoyeni Opeyemi, to three and half years imprisonment for victimizing a 12-year -old boy, Joel Sunday, who was her housemaid.

The convict was apprehended by the men of the state police command after she used sticks and razor blades to thrust multiple injuries on the body of the victim at Adebowale area of Akure.

It was reported that the 36-year-old widow was prosecuted before the court on a five-count bugging on attempted murder, child abuse, violence against person prohibition among others.

It was added that the Magistrate, Mrs. O.A Edwin said the defendant was guilty of counts one, four and five. She, however, struck out count four.

Don’t fire your aide for covering his nose – Omokri advises Tinubu

A former media aide to ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has summoned 2023 presidential aspirant of All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to sack his aide for covering his nose.

Omokri issued this statement after his observation to video clips showing Tinubu looking wet after he stood up to address some of his loyalists at the palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland in Ijebu Ode.

Responding to the incident, Omokri, in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Sunday night, beckoned on journalists to help recognize the Tinubu’s aide who covered his nose.

He promised to help him get another job if he was later on fired, adding that nobody deserves to be fired for covering his her nose when the air has been polluted by the release of special perfume.

Police Counter Terror Attack On Niger Community, Free 20 Abducted Victims

Operatives of the Niger Police Command have thwarted a terror attack on Nasko in the Magama Local Government Area of the state.

It was issued in a statement on Sunday by the Spokespersons of the command, Wasiu Abiodun, said the terrorists invaded some villages around Nasko in Magama on Saturday and abducted a large number of cattle.

He added that the police sent for reinforcement and military operatives and vigilantes joined in searching the area. Items recuperated at the scene included one AK-47 magazine with 30 rounds of live ammunition, seven telephone handsets and one Honda motorcycle.

Abiodun pleaded the cooperation of residents in ridding the state of banditry and other crimes.

Valentine: NACA Warns Young Nigerians Against Risky Behaviours

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has heartened Nigerians, especially young people, to know their HIV status and steer clear of risky behaviours.

The director-general of NACA, Dr Gambo Aliyu issued a statement, advised that New HIV infection is currently rampant among young people aged 15-24 years. It is essential to reduce this fretting trend among Nigerian youths by encouraging faithful relationships for those who cannot abstain from sex to engage in safer sex.

In a report, Aliyu summoned Nigerians, especially the youths, to demonstrate love within the context of caring deeply for their loved ones and avoid behaviour that will endanger them to HIV/AIDS.

Therefore, he urged everyone to avoid risky behaviours to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Love wisely, share love not HIV. Get a HIV test today.

Man holds children hostage for wife’s debt at Lekki

A man recognized as Felix Akeze, staff of FIRS, is reportedly holding his wife and children captive with gun at their residence in Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos.

It was reported that the wife who is from Aku in Igbo Etiti LGA, Enugu state, alerted one of her brothers through the phone early this morning. The wife informed the brother that the husband insisted she must pay all the money he spent on her and their children else he will kill all of them.

It was issued in the report that security men at the estate who have arrived the house at no 5b, Toyosi Adetoro street together with some policemen from Ajah division are making panicky efforts to infiltrate into the compound and rescue the victims.

It was reported that the wife disclosed that they have been held hostage for five days by her husband.

EndSARS: Lai Mohammed condemns Twitter, Canada over truckers’ protest

The Federal government has alleged the Government of Canada of a double standard in the way protesters considered to be violent are recognized in Nigeria and in the West.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed made the accusation on Sunday while responding to the unfolding development in Canada, where the Canadian protesters, who have sieged roads and resorted to disrupt others, have been labeled as terrorists and modeled to a number of limitation by government and private organizations.

Furthermore, reacting to the development, the Minister, accused the Canadian government and Twitter of a double standard, recalling that during the EndSars protest, which peaked in the blockage of public roads and massive destruction of government and private property, Canada was one of the countries that spoke out, while Twitter on its part actively assisted the EndSars protesters and even helped them to raise fund.

Therefore, he added and urged Nigerians not to allow anyone not to destroy the country under the guise of protest or unbridled freedoms.

Nigeria Refineries record N11.77bn loss in 3 months

Nigeria’s three refineries recorded a merged operational shortage of N11.77 billion in the months of June, July and August 2021, Monthly Financial Reports released by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC Limited) on Sunday have been exhibited.

According to the reports, the refineries spotted in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna processed no crude oil during the periods due to ongoing resurgence. A breakdown of the losses displayed that the three refineries lost N4.01 billion in August, N3.37 billion in July and N4.01 billion in June.

It was reported in June 2021, a total of 45.84 million barrels of crude oil and distillation were produced representing an average daily production of 1.53million barrels. This changes to a decrease of 3.48% in production contrasted to May 2021 performance.

However, in May 2021, a total volume of 50.46 million barrels of crude oil and condensate was lifted by all parties. Out of this volume, 15.71 million barrels was lifted by NNPC on behalf of the Federation while the balance of 34.75 million barrels were lifted by the IOCs and the independents.

FG supports Ogun to boost ‘Adire’ production

ABEOKUTA – The Federal Government at the weekend declared its support for the production of local fabrics, generally known as ‘Adire’ in Ogun State.

The support, which came through the Office of the Vice President on Shared Facility, will further improve efforts by the Ogun State government to develop the Adire local fabric and make it a global brand.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Kunle Somorin, said that it was made known when the governor played host to the Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.

However, Counterpart in Culture and Tourism Ministry, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo while praising the Shared Facility gesture for Adire in the state, called on the Federal Government, to come to the aid of the state by putting an end to the adulteration of adire fabric in the country.

CSO’s VOICE CONCERNS OVER RITUAL KILLINGS, REQUEST SPECIAL FUND FOR NDLEA OPERATIONS

CIVIL Society Organisations, CSOs, on Sunday, revealed their concern over ritual killings in the country executed mostly by young people to get rich under drug influence, and called for special fund meant for National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to fight the menace.

This was issued in a statement signed by Executive Director, Ariyo-Dare Atoye, Adopt A Goal for Development Initiative, AAGDI and approved by Youth and Students Advocates for Development Initiative, YSAD, where they noted that the rising incidents of ritual killings and crimes committed by young persons is dreadful.

According to the statement, drugs dealers, addicts and casual users are the basic cause of the alarming rise in ritual killings, insurgency, crimes and violent robberies as they call for immediate intervention.

However, The CSOs in the statement praised Chairman of NDLEA, Gen Buba Marwa, over commitment and massive achievement recorded in the fight against drugs and also urged him not to relent over the insecurity challenges in Nigeria. Also attesting to the fact that it’s not an easy task and promised to pray for him and encourage him.
