Ikoyi Collapsed Building: Death toll now 45

Death toll in the 21-storey collapsed building in Ikoyi, Lagos has reached 45, the Lagos State Government said late Wednesday night.

The government also addressed that contrary to speculations, no directive has been given for the demolition of the two high-rise buildings standing at the site of the 21-storey collapsed building in Ikoyi, Lagos.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso said the Panel of Inquiry instituted to establish issues surrounding the collapse of the building has continued to sit and that an integrity test was yet to be conducted on the buildings.

He added that the identification of bodies of the victims of the incident had continued at IDH, Yaba, Lagos Mainland, and 32 families have submitted DNA samples so far.

Reps instructs banks to suspend collection of customs duty

The House of Representatives Committee on Customs has asked the Nigeria Customs Service to suspend banks owing the service from further collecting duties until their debts have been cleared.

Chairman of the committee, Leke Abejide, stated this on Wednesday at a session between the members of the committee and representatives of the banks collecting duties on behalf of customs.

According to him, investigations conducted so far by the committee reveal that five banks collectively owe the service about N10 billion.

Man gets life imprisonment for defiling a 10-year old

An Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced Friday Imoh, a 43-year-old auto-mechanic to life imprisonment for defiling his 10-year-old neighbour.

Justice Abiola Soladoye sentenced Imoh after finding him guilty.

He was found guilty of two counts of defilement of a child and threatening violence contrary to Sections 137 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Sanwo-Olu condoles with Taiwo Odukoya over wife’s demise

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has condoled with the senior pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Taiwo Odukoya, over the death of his wife, Nomthi.

Nomthi died on Tuesday after a two-year battle with cancer.

Through his verified Facebook account,the Governor expressed his condolences to Pastor Taiwo, encouraging not to lose the strength of his mind.

Odukoya got married to Nomthi in 2010 after the death of his first wife, Bimbo, in the 2005 Sosoliso plane crash.

Anambra Decides: Saraki applauds Nigerians, INEC on Election Success

Immediate Past Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has congratulated Nigerians, particularly the people of Anambra State for the successful completion of the gubernatorial elections in Anambra State after the uncertainty and fear that the election would either not hold or be marred by violence.

He also advised the people not to allow the crucial lessons which the results of the elections signified to go unnoticed or ignored.

Saraki in a statement signed on his behalf by the Head of his Media Office, Yusuph Olaniyonu, commended the stakeholders and other people who initiated and participated in the dialogue that eventually created the peaceful atmosphere that pervaded the period immediately before, during, and after the election.
