FG Debunks Alleged Attack On Nigeria’s Database
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has debunked reports that its database had been hacked by some individuals.
Social media reports on Monday had said that hackers attacked NIMC’s database and stole over three million National Identity Numbers of Nigerians.
The Commission in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Spokesperson, Kayode Adegoke, said its servers were not breached but were fully optimised at the highest international security levels as the custodian of the most important national database for Nigeria.
The statement quoted the Director-General of NIMC, Aliyu Aziz, guaranteeing Nigerians that the Commission had undertaken great measures to ensure that the nation’s database was optimally secured.

Reports reaching FirstNigeriaTV revealed Shonekan died at Evercare hospital in Lekki.
He was the interim head of the Nigerian Government between August 26 and November 17 1993 when he was ousted in a coup led by late General Sani Abacha.

EFCC arrests Mompha Once again for alleged money laundering
Operatives of the Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have re-arrested a suspected internet fraudster, Ismailia Mustapha.
FirstNigeriaTV reports Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, was re-arrested for laundering funds obtained through unlawful activities and retention of alleged proceeds of crime.
He was arrested on Monday, January 10, 2022, and according to the EFCC, he is currently standing trial alongside his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited on an amended twenty two-count charge bordering on cyber fraud.
The money laundering case leveled against him amounts to the tune of N32.9bn (Thirty-two Billion Nine Hundred Thousand Naira) brought against him by the EFCC.
Parliamentary Workers Protest Non-implementation of Minimum Wage
National Assembly workers on the platform of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), on Monday, embarked on a protest over non-implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage.
The parliamentary workers converged at the foyer of the White House building of the National Assembly complex with placards, condemning the action of the chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Engr. Ahmed Amshi, for breaching the memorandum of understanding (MoU) entered into in 2021.
A copy of the resolutions to embark on the protest dated January 6, 2022 and addressed to the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Arc. Amos Ojo, showed that the association raised six fundamental breaches by the National Assembly management.
The resolution, which was jointly signed by PASAN chairman, Comrade Sunday Sabiyi, and the vice-chairman, Comrade M.A. Liman, accused both NASC and NASS of deliberate contempt of the MoU which was agreed on April 14, 2021, which stated that “there would be full implementation of the new National Minimum Wage Act, 2019, and the Revised Condition of Service.”
FG Vows To Support Manufacturers
The Federal Government on Monday assured manufacturers of its support to enable them to get good returns on their investments.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, who gave the assurance while playing host to a delegation of Expand Global Industries Limited, said though many manufacturing companies were facing the issue of shortage of foreign exchange, the federal government was doing everything to assist manufacturers to access forex, particularly for the importation of machinery for those using local raw materials for their production.
He maintained that the Ministry would continue to assist manufacturers to remove any identified bottleneck that could impede their production process, especially with respect to the ease of doing business.
In a statement by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Ifedayo Sayo, the Minister said his ministry would continue to partner with manufacturers to ensure that they were kept in business for the good of the investors.
Security Operatives Neutralize Five Bandits In Kaduna
At least five bandits have been “neutralised” by security operatives during an attack on a community in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the state government was informed by the military authorities that troops foiled an attack and neutralised five terrorists in Kwanan Bataro, Giwa LGA.
He said the governor encouraged the security operatives to keep up the intensity in the ongoing offensive against terrorists in the area.
“Governor Nasir El-Rufai has expressed satisfaction at the operational feedback and commended the troops for their proactive and sharp response to the intelligence received”, Aruwan said.
He added that patrol and surveillance of the area were being sustained by security forces.
FG Set To Launch Governing Councils For Polytechnics, Colleges Of Education
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu is set inaugurate the governing councils of eight federal polytechnics and six colleges of education which were recently established by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government.
A statement signed by the Director of Information, Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, said the minister would inaugurate the governing councils alongside the Board of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) on January 18 and 20, 2022, respectively.
“This is to strengthen governance and administration in the institutions and render their performance more responsive to the expectations of the present administration”, the statement said.
INEC Prints 39,208 New PVCs Ahead Of FCT Polls
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the Area Council elections scheduled for February 12.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Commission, Festus Okoye, said in Abuja at the weekend that, the Commission printed 39,208 new PVCs.
He said they would be distributed to registered voters, who participated in the recently-suspended Continuous Voter Registration Exercise (CVR) in the territory. He also said the distribution would cover those, who requested for transfers, replacement of lost or damaged PVCs and update of voters’ records.
Okoye said the distribution of the cards began on Monday and would end on February 4, urging registered voters yet to collect their cards to do so.
Police Guarantee Enugu Residents Of Adequate Security
Following gunshots in some parts of the Enugu metropolis on Monday, the state police command has urged the residents to go about their normal businesses and remain law-abiding.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, in a release, said the police operatives had taken over the situation.
“Following the alleged cases of sporadic shootings at Topland Amechi-Awkunanaw, snatching and burning of a Toyota Sienna vehicle and a tricycle at Umueze and Agbani axis of Nkanu West LGA of the state by miscreants alleged to be enforcing illegal sit-at-home order, which caused panic within Enugu metropolis in the morning hours of today, 10/01/2022, citizens of Enugu metropolis and the state in general are hereby assured that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have brought the situation under control.
“Consequently, law-abiding citizens of the state have been enjoined to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation or harassment, as police and other security operatives have been duly deployed to further thwart the untoward activities of the miscreants in the state”, the statement read.
I Have Informed President Buhari About My Presidential Ambition – Tinubu
Former Lagos State Governor and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Monday said he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to contest for the position of president in 2023.
Tinubu said it was a lifelong ambition and that he has the confidence, the vision and the capacity to build on the vision of President Buhari.
Tinubu spoke to State House correspondents after meeting behind closed-doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said he was at the State House to see the President on general issues concerning Nigeria including some of the concerns in the APC as well as security issues.
Asked whether he has informed President Buhari of his ambition to contest for the President in 2023, he said, “I have informed the President of my ambition but I have not informed Nigerians yet, I am still consulting.”
