JusticeforSylvester: Three Dowen Students Are Currently In Our Custody – Police

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has confirmed that three students of Dowen College are currently in the police custody, assisting them as regards the investigation into the death of 12-year old Sylvester Oromoni.

Odumosi said three of the five students mentioned by Sylvester before he died are already in custody and cooperating with the police in their findings.

Although Odumosu did not give the identities of those in custody he insisted that they are key suspects.

Kala-Balge Battle: Zulum Gifts Injured Soldiers N5m

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum on Monday night, visited soldiers injured in a fight between troops and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

Five soldiers were killed while many others were injured last week when operatives of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) engaged Boko Haram (BH) and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at Rann, a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon, in Kala Balge, Local Government Area of Borno State.

Governor Zulum during his visit to the injured soldiers who are receiving treatment in Army Hospital, Maimalari Barracks was received by the General Officer Commanding 7 Division of the Army, Brigadier General Abdulwahab Eyitayo.

The governor directed the release of N5million which was immediately shared to all soldiers on admission, including those unconnected with the Kala-Balge battle.

MTN Begins Compulsory Vaccination For Staff

As the COVID-19 Omicron variant rages across the world, MTN Group on Monday said it will make COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for its staff from January 2022.

MTN Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Mupita, announced this in a press statement, noting that the decision to implement mandatory vaccination was to protect the health and safety of people and workplaces.

According to him, the science of vaccination is clear as it reduces rates of serious infections, hospitalisation, and death.

The new mandatory vaccination policy follows the Group’s US$25 million donations to the African Union’s COVID-19 vaccination programme.

Why Buhari is yet to sign electoral bill into law – Presidency

The Presidency has explained that President Muhammadu Buhari is currently consulting widely on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill and will do what is best for the country.

The National Assembly had on November 19 transmitted the bill to President Buhari for assent in pursuance of Section 58 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and the Acts Authentication Act 2004.

However, the President is yet to sign the bill into law, four weeks after the Senate and the House of Representatives passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill and approved the electronic transmission of results.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, monitored by THEWILL, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said his principal is currently consulting with all stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before making his position known on the issue.

Police Still hot on the trail of Killer Maid

The Police are currently on the trail of the maid who strangled the matriarch of the Igbinedion family of Edo State, Maria to death last week. The maid is reportedly from Cross River State. The late woman’s children have vowed to assist the police to track her.

Recall that FirstNigeriaTv reported that Maria from Usen in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, was strangled to death, on Thursday December 2 at her home in Ugbo, Benin-City, the Edo State capital at the age of 85.

The gruesom killing has thrown the Igbinedion family into a mournful mood.

FG To Refurbish Michael Imoudu Institute To University

The Federal Government is to upgrade Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS) to a university to strengthen its scope for improved service delivery.

Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) gave this indication at the ongoing ’17th Hamartan School’, taking place in the Institute in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Keyamo said the university when taken off would serve as a strategic labour university for the West African sub-region and sub-Saharan Africa.

Nigerian-born media executive, Alex Okosi has emerged one of Britain’s 100 most influential black people in the Powerlist 2022.

The Powerlist is an annual event that recognises the United Kingdom’s most powerful people of African, African-Caribbean and African American heritage.

The list honours outstanding men and women across media, technology, business, education, arts, fashion, science, politics, design, and entertainment. Alex was selected due to his contribution and his responsiveness for driving the growth of entertainment brands across Nigeria and the international scene.

He was the driving force behind the launch of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), a high- profile event. In 2020, Alex was announced as the Managing Director of Emerging Markets for YouTube in Europe, Middle East and Africa. He also spearheaded the launch of other localized Viacom brands in Africa.

Family of late 12-year old Dowen College Student hires Femi Falana

The family of Sylvester Oromoni (Jnr), the late 12-year old Dowen College student have hired human rights activist and lawyer, Femi Falana to take up their case against the school over the death of their son.

In a letter dated December 6, 2021, to the office of Lagos State’s Chief Coroner, Femi Falana is requesting an inquest into the circumstances leading to the death of his client’s child.

The letter, titled ‘Request for Inquest into the Tragic Death of Sylvester Oromoni killed at Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos,’ said that based on the briefings by the family, the late student died as a result of injuries allegedly inflicted on him by his seniors at the school.

Two dead in Ogun Auto-crash

Two persons have died after a motorcycle collided with a truck at Oni and Sons Bus Stop, off Arigbajo, along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway Ogun State.

Eyewitness account said that lack of concentration on the part of the motorcyclist made him lose control of the bike resulting in the accident.

The Spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps,TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.

Akinbiyi added that the two corpses had been deposited at the morgue of Ifo General Hospital by men of the FRSC

NDLEA Director-General’s Daughter Gets Political Appointment

Zainab Marwa-Abubakar, one of the daughters of the Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mohammed Buba Marwa, has been rewarded for her political zealousness. She has been appointed to the position of a Special Assistant on Community Relations to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Mohammed Bello.
