Family of Bullied Student Demands Justice, Files N500m Lawsuit Against Abuja School

A devastating viral video showing Ms. Namitra Bwala, a student of Lead British International School, Gwarinpa, Abuja, being bullied by her fellow students, has led to a civil suit against the school.

The family of Ms Namitra is seeking N500 million in damages and a public apology in two national dailies for the school’s failure to provide a safe learning environment for their ward.

It would be recalled that a video had circulated the net recently showing Ms Namitra Bwala being bullied by fellow students while some recorded the action. The clip has since garnered widespread outrage and condemnation.

The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, alleges that the school was negligent in its duties. Specifically, the school failed to Prevent the assault, Inform her parents immediately of the incident and conduct an investigation until the video became viral on social media

While Ms. Bwala was under the school’s supervision, the family believes that these failures amount to negligence. By taking legal action, they hope to bring about drastic changes and adequate measures to prevent a re-occurrence of similar issues in the school.
