Court Grants Emefiele N50m Bail

Embattled former Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail by the Lagos High Court in Ikeja.

Justice Rahman Oshodi who approved the N50 Million bail required two sureties to match the amount.

To meet the bail conditions, the sureties must be gainfully employed and have a track record of three years of tax payment with the Lagos State Government. They must also provide proper identification and be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.

Justice Oshodi also expressed satisfaction with the previously set bail conditions for Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Isioma-Omoil, who is facing a separate charge before Justice Olufunke Sule-Hamzat of the Lagos High Court in Yaba.

The court directed that the bail documents be transferred to the special offences court and registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.

Recall that Emefiele was charged by the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with fresh 26 counts, on allegations of abuse of office and irregular allocation of $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.
