Breaking: EFCC invites Ortom, quizzes on misappropriation charge

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, into custody for an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misappropriation during his time in office.

Ortom arrived at the Makurdi zonal office of the EFCC on Alor Gordon Street at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, following an invitation from the anti-graft agency.

A source revealed that Ortom is being questioned over “alleged misappropriation of funds during his time in office”. The former governor is said to have been cooperative with the EFCC during the investigation.

Ortom, who served as Governor of Benue State from 2015-2019, had faced previous accusations of corruption. In September 2018, the EFCC froze accounts belonging to the Benue State government, alleging that the state had diverted nearly three billion naira (approximately $8.2 million USD) from the London-Paris Club refund.
