The hamlet of Ibrahim Matane, the Secretary to the State Government of Niger State, was attacked by gunmen suspected of being bandits (terrorists), who burned 20 houses and automobiles on fire and rustled animals.
Terrorists assaulted Matane in Mashegu Local Government Area on Tuesday, following the terrorist attack on Saho Rami Market on Monday.
The attack was characterized as regrettable and saddening by the SSG who confirmed it.
He stated that the administration would continue to put in place the appropriate security structures to meet the state’s security challenges.
The state Commissioner of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar, also confirmed the incident but claimed the number of casualties could not be determined at the time of reporting this story.
He claims that the bandits are launching coordinated attacks from village to village because their sole escape route to Zamfara State has been barred by troops.
The commissioner went on to say that the state’s boundaries have been ringed by troops who have engaged the bandits, resulting in a considerable number of casualties.
