Bandits, who kidnapped Emmanuel Odetunde, a student of Sociology at the University of Ibadan,(UI) Oyo State, have requested N100m ransom from his family to free him. He was kidnapped by the bandits, who broke into his dad’s farm in Oke Odun, Apete area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Monday.
Odetunde was said to have been abducted by the gunmen around 5pm. It was further stated by close family sources that four suspected Fulani herders had requested for his father. They, however, abducted the innocent man when told by the workers that his father was not available. Samuel, the victim’s brother said the gunmen had sent messages out to the family, demanding a N100m ransom for his freedom.
Although Samuel disclosed that the safety of his brother was mandatory, he also said that the family could not raise the large amount. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olugbenga Fadeyi, said in a statement that the police “are working alongside other security operatives to ensure that the victim returns safely from the den of his captors”. “We will also make sure that the abductors are caught having dispatched a police tactical team, including an anti-kidnapping squad that will help in the rescue mission,” he said.
