If you asked people about the stability of electricity in Ajibode a few years ago, the response was often a clear “No.” For many residents, students, and business owners, electricity was one of the major challenges of living and operating a business in the area.
Ajibode was once described by some people as a place where electricity supply was unreliable. Some people even advised students and business owners whose activities depended heavily on electricity not to rent houses or shops there.
For students, the lack of stable electricity could make everyday life difficult. Students who needed electricity to study at night, charge their phones and laptops, access the internet, or complete assignments often had to look for alternatives. Business owners also had their own challenges, especially those whose businesses required electricity to operate.
As a result, some people avoided Ajibode altogether. The poor electricity supply became part of the area’s reputation.
However, in recent times, something appears to have changed.
For the past few weeks, residents have observed a noticeable improvement in electricity supply in Ajibode. The electricity has become more consistent compared with what many residents experienced in previous years.
This development has surprised some people who have lived in the area for a long time. An area that was once associated with poor electricity supply now appears to be enjoying a more stable power supply.
But this improvement has also raised another question: What caused the change?
There are different explanations among residents.
Some people believe that a faulty electrical facility responsible for the poor supply was eventually repaired. According to this view, the improved electricity is simply the result of fixing a problem that had affected the area for a long time.
Others have a different explanation. Some residents say that electricity had previously been supplied to another area and was later transferred or redirected to Ajibode. If this is the case, the change in distribution could explain the improvement residents are currently experiencing.
There is also a claim among some residents that a senator was responsible for the improvement in electricity supply. However, this claim has not been independently established and would need to be verified before it can be presented as fact.
Regardless of the explanation, the important thing is that residents are currently experiencing an improvement.
For students, stable electricity can make a significant difference. It can provide more opportunity to study, charge electronic devices, access online learning materials, and complete academic work without constantly looking for alternative sources of power.
For business owners, the benefit can be equally significant. Businesses that depend on electricity can reduce their reliance on generators and other alternative sources of power. This could help reduce operating costs and make it easier for businesses to function.
But while residents may be enjoying the improvement, one major question remains:
Will the consistency of electricity in Ajibode continue?
This is the question many residents may be asking silently.
After years of unreliable electricity, residents may be hesitant to assume that the current situation will automatically become permanent. Electricity supply can improve for a period and later become unstable again if the underlying problems are not permanently addressed.
The real test, therefore, is not simply whether Ajibode has enjoyed stable electricity in recent months. The real test is whether the stability can be maintained over the long term.
If a faulty facility was repaired, residents will want to know whether the repair is a permanent solution. If the improvement resulted from a change in electricity distribution, they will want to know whether the arrangement will continue. And if an individual or public official contributed to the improvement, residents deserve accurate information about the intervention.
Ajibode needs more than temporary relief. Residents need a reliable electricity supply that they can confidently depend on.
For now, the improvement is worth acknowledging. But perhaps it is too early to declare victory.
The light may be on today. The bigger question is whether it will remain on tomorrow, next month, and years from now.
Ajibode may have moved from a story of “no light” to a story of more consistent electricity. But only time will tell whether this is a lasting change or simply another temporary phase.
