Nigerian Crossdresser, Bobrisky, also known as Idris Okuneye, will face sentencing on April 9, 2024, following his guilty plea to charges of Naira abuse brought by the EFCC Justice Abimbola Awogboro reserved the judgment date earlier today after Bobrisky’s admission to the four-count charge.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution, represented by Mr. Sulaiman Sulaiman, requested to drop two of the initial six charges, which the court approved, leaving four charges intact.
The EFCC prosecutor outlined the case’s facts, supported by witness testimony from EFCC Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Bolaji Temitope.
Temitope detailed the EFCC’s surveillance of individuals spraying Naira during events in Lagos, including Bobrisky’s actions captured on social media. The defendant admitted to his involvement after viewing incriminating videos and offered a written statement, which the court accepted as evidence.
Bobrisky pleaded guilty to each count of the charge.
Following the prosecution’s presentation, Justice Awogboro ruled Bobrisky guilty as charged. Despite pleas for leniency and promises of educational initiatives from Bobrisky and his legal team, sentencing was adjourned to April 9.
According to Section 21 (1) of the CBN Act 2007, which prohibits tampering with currency, a person who is guilty of this offence is liable to a six-month prison term, a fine of N50,000, or both
