As the world observes World Social Justice Day, several Benue stakeholders have criticized the practice of Jungle Justice to resolve social concerns.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Michael Gusah, stated that expressing dissatisfaction through illegal violence is not a solution to the situation.
Gusah went on to say that the governor’s office will continue to provide a favorable climate for participants in the justice sector to work in and ensure quick justice dispensation in the state, while urging inhabitants to obey the law.
The Commissioner disclosed that the present administration has done a lot to ensure that people have access to justice as well as provision of security of lives and property. “Governor Ortom has assented to more than 27 laws including open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment law 2017.” Speaking, a Makurdi based legal practitioner, Barr. Emmanuel Ominyi, also condemned acts of jungle justice by resulting in self-help; pointing out that if anyone was aggrieved over a matter, he/she should report to security agents or seek redress in a court of law.
