Osinbajo Calls For Use Of Artificial Intelligence To Tackle Insecurity
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) on Saturday called for the adoption of artificial intelligence by the military, security, and intelligence agencies to tackle the current security challenges in the country.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC 14) at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) in Abuja, the vice president enjoined participants drawn from Nigeria, the Gambia, Ghana, and Liberia, to apply the knowledge obtained during the 10-month programme, to tackle the myriad of security challenges across the West African sub-region.
According to the vice president, “We cannot police the country with human security alone; we must leverage technology. Security and intelligence agencies must adopt artificial intelligence, and must be proactive, not reactive, in dealing with issues of insecurity in the country.”
Badagry expressway gets N15bn NNPC tax credit boost
The Agbara-Seme border section of Lagos-Badagry expressway project will receive N15 billion of NNPC tax credit fund, Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukayode Popoola, has said.
Popoola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday that the intervention funding would fast track the ongoing reconstruction of the road.
NAN reports that the 46 km highway was awarded to CGC Construction Company in October 2018 at a cost of N63.2 billion.
Lagos-Badagry expressway is part of the projects NNPC is funding under the Tax Credit Scheme among the 21 roads selected nationwide.
Bandits takeover Niger road in broad daylight, kidnap travellers
An unspecified number of armed bandits on Saturday blocked the Kontagora-Minna Road in Niger State, causing gridlock in the area.
This left many vehicles and travellers stranded around the Yakila and Garun Gabas areas near Kundu in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.
The blockage of the road lasted about one hour and there were no security personnel to clear the road in the area at the time.
Despite travelers fleeing into nearby villages for safety, the bandits reportedly abducted an undisclosed number of persons and moved them to an unknown destination.
Wike offers N50m, automatic employment to physically challenged PhD student
Governor Nyesom Wike has honoured Dr. James Daniel, a student of the Rivers State University (RSU), living with disability, with N50 million and automatic appointment as a university lecturer for bagging a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
Wike announced the N50 million reward and automatic appointment on Saturday during the 33rd convocation of the Rivers State University in Port Harcourt.
He said the honour bestowed on Daniel is in recognition of his academic excellence and for being a source of inspiration to persons living with disabilities.
He assured that the infrastructural development in the university started by his administration, including the four new campuses at Ahoada, Emohua, Ebara and Sakpenwa, will be completed by the second quarter of 2022.
Lagos APC Faction Joins PDP
A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos under the aegis of Lagos4Lagos, on Saturday joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Lagos4Lagos movement, under the leadership of Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has been in a running battle with the APC leadership in the state.
The group conducted parallel congresses during the recent ward, local government and state congresses of the APC.However, the congresses conducted by the Jandor-led group were not recognised as the national secretariat of the party ratified the congresses held by the faction loyal to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Jandor, who has indicated an interest in contesting the 2023 governorship election in the state, led his members from the 20 local governments of the state to the PDP on Saturday.

The 12-year-old, who hailed from Delta State, was alleged to have been attacked by some of his senior colleagues for refusing to join a cult group.

65 Baptist Church members kidnapped since October freed by bandits in Kaduna
About 65 members of the Baptist church and others who were kidnapped by bandits in Kaduna state have been freed by their abductors.
The victims were kidnapped by bandits on October 31 when they invaded the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kakau Daji in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The bandits killed two of the captives a few days later.
On Saturday, the victims including women, men and children were brought to the Albarkar Baptist Church in the Kaduna state capital after their release and were reunited with their families.
Former supreme court judge, Babalakin is dead
Bolarinwa Oyegoke Babalakin, an influential judge, who retired as a Supreme Court justice, is dead. He passed on at the age of 94.
Mr Babalakin, the father of billionaire businessman and lawyer, Wale Babalakin, who was called to the London Bar in the late 1950s, died on Saturday morning.
Prayers was held for him yesterday at his hometown of Gbongan in Osun State.
Air Peace Resumes Flights Into Anambra Airport December 7
Following the recent approval of the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Air Peace has announced the commencement of scheduled flights into the airport from Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
Disclosing the new development to journalists in an official statement issued on Saturday, Air Peace’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, stated that Anambra people can heave a sigh of relief as they can now fly directly from Lagos and Abuja into the Umueri-located Airport, adding that the airline would kick-off with four flights per week.
Olisa, who said that passengers can start booking on Air Peace’s website or its mobile app, stressed that the airline plans to connect Anambra to other cities too.
He asserted that the consistent route expansion by the airline is a reflection of its no-city-left-behind initiative, which has seen the airline expand its footprints both in Nigeria and beyond, while easing the transportation burden of Nigerians.
UK To Add Nigeria To Red List Amid Omicron Fears
Amid concerns about the spread of the Omicron variant of COViD-19, the United Kingdom on Saturday announced plans to add Nigeria to the travel ban list.
British Health Minister Sajid Javid, who announced the development on Saturday, said, Nigeria will be added to the British government’s travel “red list” at 0400 GMT on Monday, saying that Nigeria was second only to South Africa in terms of Omicron cases linked to travel.
Britain will require all inbound travellers to take a pre-departure COVID-19 test, and arrivals from Nigeria will have to quarantine in hotels to slow the spread of the Omicron variant, Javid added.
The pre-departure testing requirement will mean all inbound travellers must take a test a maximum of 48 hours before departure time, and will come in from 4am on Tuesday.
