Pilot survives as bandits shoot down Air Force jet in Zamfara
In a statement signed on Monday by Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the pilot identified as Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo survived after he successfully ejected from the aircraft.
“On 18 July 2021, at about 12.45 pm, a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft, returning from a successful air interdiction mission between the boundaries of Zamfara and Kaduna State, came under intense enemy fire which led to its crash in Zamfara State.
“Luckily, the gallant pilot of the aircraft, Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo, successfully ejected from the aircraft.Using his survival instincts, the pilot, who came under intense ground fire from the bandits, was able to evade them and sought refuge in nearby settlements awaiting sunset,” the statement read in part”.
Ahmad Lawan backs senate’s stand on electronic transmission of election results

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan has justified the reasons for the position taken by the Senate on the electronic transmission of election results.
In his words when asked to comment on the passage of the Electoral Act 2010 Amendment Bill said “All of us in the Senate, 109 of us, believe that at one point, our electoral process must deploy electronic transmission so that it eases and enhances the electoral process and give it more credibility and integrity.
“But you see, when you have not reached that stage where you could deploy the electronic transmission from every part of the country, then you have to be very careful. And no matter what anybody may say, you cannot have about 50 percent of Nigerian voters not participating or not getting their votes counted in elections and say it doesn’t matter, that we have to start the electronic transmission.

MSF launches Centre for malnutrition treatment in Maiduguri
Médecins Sans Frontières also known as Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has opened a centre in Maiduguri, Borno State for the treatment of children with complicated forms of malnutrition.
In a statement on Monday,the MSF said the Centre which is now named Nilefa Keji meaning ‘health is wealth’, is 120-bedded and will provide both inpatient and outpatient treatment.
In his words, the MSF Assistant Project Coordinator said in a statement that “The move from Fori to Nilefa Keji became necessary because we were seeing a lot of malnourished children in our facility,” noting that: “Fori nutrition centre had limited space for expansion and we needed to accommodate more people.”

Courts Restrains Zamfara House of Assemnly from Impeaching Deputy Governor Mahdi Gusau
The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, restrained the Zamfara House of Assembly from impeaching the Deputy Governor of the state, Mahdi Gusau.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order while delivering a ruling in an ex-parte motion with suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/650/2021 brought by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), through its Lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, SAN.
The lawmakers in the state had threatened to impeach Gusau over activities they considered to be a threat to the security in the state which they claimed he was involved in.
Buhari calls for more concessional resources to motivate growth
As a result of its commitment to reforms, Nigeria has called for more concessional resources through a robust International Development Association (IDA) to motivate the growth momentum needed to help the continent in its long-term development aims.
The call statement which was made by President Muhammadu Buhari,delivered by the Minister of Finance,Budget and National Planning,Mrs Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed at the meeting of African Heads of States Summit on IDA in Abidjan.

NCDC Confirms 203 new Cases of COVID-19

The fear of the third wave of COVID-19 heightens as the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control records 203 new cases of the Delta variant of corona virus.
Of the 203 new confirmed cases, Lagos alone accounted for 186 indicating a rapid rise in the spread of the disease in the State.
The breakdown of the latest confirmed cases from NCDC: Edo-4 Oyo-4 Rivers-4 FCT-3 Kwara-2.
The federal and state government is calling for further and total compliance to the preventive measures and protocol to curb the spread of this virus.
Insecurity: Bandits yet again kill one person, kidnap seven others in Kaduna
According to a report by Channels Tv,at least one person has been killed and seven others abducted by bandits in Birnin Gwari Local Government area of Kaduna State. Among the kidnap victims are three women and four men.
The bandits were said to have raided the community with heaving gun shooting killing one while they take away seven other people.
They also took along with them,50 cows that belonged to some of the villagers. This is the the most recent of the series of attacks that has happened in the state.
Third Wave Of COVID-19: FG Puts FCT And Six States On Red Alert
As a result of the rise in number of confirmed cases of the Delta Variant of Corona Virus in the country, the Federal Capital Territory and six other states (Lagos,Oyo,Rivers,Kaduna,Kano,Plateau) have been put on red alert by the Federal Government as one of the preventive measures against the third waved of the Virus.
The Presidential Steering Committee said this action by the FG was to control the rise in number of cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the country
The PSC has warned all states in the country to be prepared and to continue to put all preventive measures and protocols in place to control the spread of the virus while also reminding Nigerians to make sure to stay safe even in the mood of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
INEC Confirms Capacity For Transmission Of Votes In Remote Areas
Following the state of disagreement in both chambers of the National Assembly over electronic transmission of results last week, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) made their position clear on their capacity to deepen the use of technology in the electoral process even in remote areas of the country.
This is contrary to the standpoint of the lawmakers that opposed to the electronic transmission of result for reasons that some parts of the country do not have the required network coverage.
Speaking on Channel Television Breakfast Show on Saturday, Mr Festus Okoye,the INEC Chairman and Commissioner for Information and Voters Education ascertained that they have the capability and are willing to intensify the use of technology for the result transmission and stating that their power is bounded by the constitution and the law of the country.
Buhari directs seven North-West governors to end banditry

Atiku Bagudu,the Governor of Kebbi state and also the Chairman of APC Governors’ Forum has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed him and six other North-West governors to end banditry in the region.
This, he disclosed at the continuation of a Fulani Stakeholders’ Peace, Security and Unity Meeting held in Birnin-Kebbi.
He said that this directive from the president is to make sure that peace is restored in the zone and the the president fully prioritize the safety of lives and properties in the country
Nigerian Airforce Plane Crashes Again
An aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force may have crashed in Kaduna State
Details of the crash were not available as at time of report but we gathered that the fighter jet left Yola, Adamawa State as part of the mission against bandits.
Recalling that the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Atahiru died in one of the crashes in Kaduna,Nigerian Military planes have suffered so many crashes in recent time.
2019 UTME highest score candidate, a 17 year old got $4.35m scholarship in the United States

30 students including a 17 year old boy, Ekene Ezeunala that got the highest 2019 UTME score have gotten a fully-funded scholarship of about $4.35 million to study in the United States by 2022 Opportunity Fund Programme Scholars.
The 17 years old boy attended Meiran Community Senior High School, Lagos and received full funding to study Computer Science and Mathematics at Columbia University in the City of New York.
According to the latest Institute of International Education Open Doors Report, Nigeria remains the top source of African students studying in the United States. About 13,762 Nigerians study at more than 1,000 U.S. colleges and universities.

The Oyo State Government on Saturday has shed more light on the recent Igangan invasion that killed one Amotekun leader and two others,contrary to the rumors,the community leaders said the invaders were men from Nigeria Custom Service.
They further said that the act of invasion was so unnecessary and not reasonable knowing that Igangan, Igbo Ora, Ayete are not bother towns, they emphasized on the need for the Custom Service to properly regulate their operations in order to stop such terrible incident from re-occurring.

CBN Limits Sugar Importation To Just Dangote,BUA and Flour Mills
The Central Bank Of Nigeria has restricted the importation of Sugar to three companies which are: Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, BUA Sugar Refinery Limited, and Golden Sugar Company, which is owned by Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc.
In a Statement signed by Ozoemena Nnaji,the director of trade and exchange department, CBN said that just these three companies has expanded its roles to fulfill tasks formerly completed by businesses up the supply chain.
The process called Backward Integration is used to measure how much a company has invested in the development of a sector. Just three Companies have gotten the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria as the bank is charged with the mandate of monitoring the implementation of the backward integration programs of all the companies.
FG Rebukes Bishop Kukah Over Comments on Nigeria Before US Congress
In response to the claims made by Bishop Kukah four days ago that only Christian schools are being targeted by bandits or terrorists,the Federal Government said the act was unpatriotic and even castigating that he has chosen an international audience to paint his country in bad light.
FG expresses their displeasure and disappointment of the act in a statement signed by Presidential Aide Garba Sheu.
He said: It is unfortunate, and disappointing, for citizens of Nigeria to bear witness to one of their Churchmen castigating their country in front of representatives of a foreign parliament.
Airtel Operating License Yet to be Renewed-NCC

Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Director of Public Affairs in a statement on Sunday, said Airtel’s Mobile Operating License is ye to be renewed.
This is in response to the statement made by the managing director of Airtel Nigeria, Mr Segun Ogunsanya on an online publication that the license has been renewed for another 10 years.
The Director of NCC however confirmed that the Mobile Network has applied for the license but it is yet to be approved as it must undergo necessary regulatory process.
