Speaking with a correspondent of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu has affirmed that the General Election scheduled to hold on February 25, 2023 will not be postponed.
He said that the commission has taken stock of INEC facilities destroyed and measures have been put in place to remedy the situation.
Mahmood also stated that Nigeria has over 93 million registered voters, which is far above the number of voters in other West African countries put together. He said that the task before the commission is like conducting election for the whole of the West African sub-region.
While admitting that over 12 million people registered newly, he mentioned that more than 2 million out of the number were cancelled as a result of underage and multiple registration.
