The Initiative for Social Impact and Sustainable Development (ISISD) is joining other well meaning Nigerian women to congratulate the Adamawa Governor -elect, Senator Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani.

ISISD Coordinator, Funmi Falobi said the emergence of Binani as the first female elected governor has proved that there is hope for Nigerian women to attain political leadership positions and contribute to the development of Nigeria.

“We join the people of Adamawa in particular and Nigerian women in general to congratulate Senator Aishatu Dahiru, Governor -elect on the successful election making her the first female governor in Nigeria. We know the journey has not been easy but we are glad that her victory has finally brought a renewed hope and ray of light for the womenfolk in Nigeria. We wish her Excellency a successful tenure to take Adamawa to greater heights and contribute to the nation building,” she said

Falobi explained that though the number of female politicians in leadership positions has dropped in the country in the just concluded 2023 elections, but her victory has a glint of light that has re-ignited the optimism for the womenfolk to keep pushing to and justle for available political positioning in Nigeria.

“We still have a long way to go in giving women the necessary support to attain political leadership in Nigeria. We want too believe that the new administration in the country would work in this direction. We also enjoin the National Assembly and the States House of Assembly to work towards the legislation of affirmative action that would lead to more women in political leadership in Nigeria. There are some African countries that have achieved this, and Nigeria, as the acclaimed giant of Africa should not be left behind in achieving this.”
